things i’m reading: we’ve got jane birkin fever (right in time for summer)
this year alone, we’ve seen the walmart birkin and the boatkin. it’s too much for one year, but i’m glad we’re having fun.
while (queen) jane birkin might be most widely known (poll please) for the iconic hermès purse of her namesake, she was most often seen with a simple, wicker bag. the basket bag (wsj).
while i won’t give you a full run down of the history of the basket bag (because most of what you need to know lies in the fact that it’s affordable and so chic), i will encourage you to pre-order ‘s upcoming “it girl: the life and legacy of jane birkin”.
not only should you justify this because marisa’s debut novel “glossy: ambition, beauty and the inside story of emily weiss’s glossier” was an incredible read, but “it girl” also marks the first comprehensive biography of the actress, singer and icon herself, jane birkin.
things in my cart: basket bags, of course
the flower embroidery immediately caught my eye on this rouje paris basket bag.
i’m obsessed with the two tone on this one from rosa mosa. fun, but subdued.
a great, versatile option from rixo.
a simple & summer-y option from clare v. i’ve been loving the recent collections from them. so so nice.
this marni vintage-looking basket tote is technically for kids, but who cares? not me.
sézane does basket bags so well. my favorite right now is the justine mini basket bag….
but for something that carries more, it’s the classic justine bag.
i can’t help myself, but to throw in a vintage miu miu option here.
things i’m listening to: the music of jane herself!
things to make: wwjbe (what would jane birkin eat)
according to an interview with daily mail, jane says she ate (and drank)…
porridge with honey (personally, i’d top it with some french squirrel date peanut butter)
(the classic) white fish with vegetables. so fresh, can’t blame her.
things to *swoon* over: jane-y
