two standout moments shaped the way i shop for the essentials & get dressed each morning now:
years ago on the sea moss girlies pod, either kate or emma - i can’t remember - was talking about an a ha moment that…as an adult if you have socks with holes and have the means to buy new socks, you can simply get new socks (or mend if you prefer).
these two moments combined led me to the firm belief that it’s not only “dress good, feel good”, but that a part of both of those is having the right basics, undergarments, socks, to feel confident when you get ready in the morning.
with yesterday’s arrival of the devil wears prada 2 teaser, it feels like there’s no better time to dive into my favorite basics, partially if not mostly inspired by the o.g. film itself.
things i’m listening to: “suddenly i see” by kt tunstall
the anthem itself! here are some fun facts to know about the song of our generation (bold? i don’t think bold enough.).
it was inspired by another icon: patti smith! while tunstall was looking at her cd collection and the cover of horses.
it was written in ~30 minutes (compare that to the average american spending 1 hr on tiktok each day?…).
it was a slow climb to the top (one of the slowest in american history). “suddenly i see” spent 23 weeks in the hot 100 before cracking the top 40.
things in my cart: the elevated essentials
i have yet to try negative, but people rave about their whipped non-wire bra and it looks incredibly comfortable (maybe not the lacey, devil-wears prada-esque bras, but it’s without a doubt, elevated).
i’m obsessed with the fit of le bon shoppe’s little boy tee. the “yacht blue” is so nice (also mint dust? love.).
another i have not tried yet, but it’s at the top of my list next: cou cou intimates. i included their thong 3-pack above, but everything looks comfy & cute.
comme si socks are the ultimate little luxury.
another great tee? leset’s margo tee. i especially love the margo long sleeve too.
another all-time favorite? the le bon shoppe boyfriend sock. the colors (like this blue/brown combo) are so good too.
according to the devil wears prada intro, a lacey black bra is a must so twist my arm i’ve included one: the fleur de mal bianca.
i have never talked to one person who doesn’t love skims underwear (this includes men with their boxer/brief options too). personally? big fan. would absolutely recommend checking out.
a pair of oddli boxers of course! there was no world where i could omit these here.
one more lace bra option to cap off our list: for love & lemons has so many great options. this red one is technically in their “holiday” collection, but could be worn year round (duh).
