last summer, i saw someone had printed out newsletters and was bringing them on a plane as their reading materials. this is what inspired this new column: the strata post.

much like how strata bites first started (back in 2021!), the strata post includes an aggregation of substack posts that sparked my interest along with a “cover” to print out with the ‘stacks so you can take your substack reading offline.

• how to *brainwash* yourself to get everything you want in life! by — a trendy term for this is “future tripping” (or good ol’ manifestation), but there’s more to it than that. my parents always taught me that the first step to being able to achieve what you want is wholeheartedly believing you can. not in a delulu way, more in a “no one is going to get it done for you” kind of way.

• research as a hobby by — kayla’s explanation here perfectly described how i find myself going down research rabbit holes…”being able to start with a simple idea and going through a series of channels and forums to absorb information about the topic creates space for one to explore new things, in turn making space for new possibilities that hadn’t been unlocked quite yet.”

• 10 online philosophy courses i’d take if i had any f*ing free time by — i subscribe to the “a.b.l” (always be learning) method in life so, resources like this are always bookmarked and incredibly appreciated over here.

• 067 - why the girls are building cyberdecks by — not only do i love that someone built a cyberdeck into a polly pocket home but how could this not be appealing (if you’re here, i’m guessing it is)…“they purposely live separate from your existing devices for people who want to take back control of their screens, without ads or without other distracting features.”

• how to be someone who actually does things by — an important blueprint. my personal favorites? “start small but stay consistent” and “do it with a childlike wonder”

• how publishers decide which authors go on book tours by — what happens after the book is finished and the side of book tours that goes unseen

• 38 ways to create more than you consume, while you consume by — it’s inherently easier to consume than create, but i found this list really approachable for anyone who wants to make small tweaks towards creativity over consumption

any app i’ve opened recently seems to be feeding me analog propaganda. not that i’m anti-analog, i’m actually quite pro, but the idea that this “agenda” was being pushed to me primarily in the form of an instagram reel felt too ironic to me.

i was being told to go analog while the success of that same post required me to be online?

• how to make your weekdays feel like weekends by — i loved how this actually felt actionable. paige says in here that they’re not revolutionary, but i don’t think we need anything wild, we need something we can actually do and that’s exactly what she delivered.

• a beginner’s guide to using claude by — anyone who knows me knows i’m team claude (and team edward, but that’s for another fandom). helena’s guide is a great breakdown for anyone just starting their claude journey with insights on various tools in a non-terminology-heavy way.

• a theory from the 1970s on how to turn a bad idea into a good idea (and a good idea into a great one) by — so you can’t print this one, but it’s worth the listen (maybe while you go on your weekday walk like paige recommends in the first piece above). i can’t say enough good things about the twelfth house and recommend everyone tune in.

• femme-surrealism & the mystery of creation by — this was uncharted territory for me and admittedly i had to slow down to properly digest this while i went through it…this is one of my favorite things about substack! i love that i stumbled my way into reading something i might not have otherwise (the comments section is equally as rich).

• the contemplations of building a personal brand while craving a digital detox by — a great read for anyone who’s been told to “market [themselves] more”. also for anyone who feels the internal conflict of being a creative/building a personal brand (which i’d guess might apply to many people who found themselves here on a text-based platform).

• brands should fund third spaces by — i wrote about commodifying connection last year and this concept that brands are filling the gap in our loneliness epidemic continues to grow. up to you how you feel about this!

• i invested $6,000 into my habits by / — making the argument for investing in companies you already love (because you’re pouring money into them anyways!).
